Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Frames North (bisharifilms.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. We follow the principles of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

When you read the site. We do not use analytics scripts, social media pixels or advertising networks. A few guides show one labelled banner from an affiliate partner; its image loads from the CJ Affiliate or MaxBounty network, which counts that it was shown. Like almost every website, our servers and our hosting and security provider keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time). These logs are used only to keep the site running and secure, for example to block abusive traffic, and are deleted on a rolling basis.

Our own reading count. To see which guides people actually get through, each page sends us one small note of its own when you close it or switch to another tab: the page address, how long it was on your screen in seconds, how far you scrolled, whether you arrived from a search engine, an AI assistant, another site or directly, phone or computer, and the country Cloudflare attaches to the request. The page makes up a random number while it is open so that a second note replaces the first; it is not kept in your browser, and we drop it from our records after two days. No IP address, cookie or browser details go into these counts, and if your browser has Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control switched on, no note is sent.

When you write to us. The contact form asks for your name, an email address and your message. We use them only to read and answer your letter. Each letter is stored on our server and a copy goes to the editors' inbox, so it reaches someone even on a busy week. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell or share what you send. To keep spam out, the form (and our own sign-in page) runs Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that looks at signals from your browser instead of asking you to solve a puzzle; Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy and does not use it for advertising.

Editors. Members of the editorial team sign in to a private area of the site. That sign-in uses a cookie, described in our cookie policy.

Affiliate links

Many pages, from gear guides to Film Notes, link to a few retailers and services through the CJ Affiliate network or the MaxBounty network (privacy policy) and to used gear on eBay through the eBay Partner Network. These links are marked as sponsored in the page code. If you click one, eBay or the partner (and CJ or MaxBounty, for partner links) may set cookies in your browser to record that the visit came from Frames North, so that a purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Those cookies belong to eBay, CJ, MaxBounty or the partner and are covered by their privacy policies; we do not receive your name, address or payment details, only anonymous totals of clicks and qualifying sales. On our side, a small script counts each click on one of these links by day, page and placement, along with the country Cloudflare reports, so we can tell which boxes are useful; it stores no IP address, cookie or anything else about you, and the link itself still goes straight to the shop.

How long we keep it

Letters are kept for as long as they are useful for the conversation and for our records of corrections, and no longer than two years. Technical logs are kept for a short period, normally a few weeks.

Who can see it

Only the editorial team. Our hosting and network providers process data on our behalf to deliver the site, under their own security and confidentiality obligations. Some of these providers may store data outside Canada.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to us through the contact page or at desk@bisharifilms.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

The site is written for a general adult audience and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page.
